Have you heard of the Firearms Freedom Act? Here is a simple overview and timeline.
It was originally introduced and passed in Montana. It declares that any firearms made and retained in-state are beyond the authority of Congress under its constitutional power to regulate commerce among the states. It has also been passed by Idaho, South Dakota, Wyoming, Arizona, Tennessee and Utah. It has been introduced in numerous other states.
The Oklahoma FFA was introduced in the form of HB 2884 on January 14, 2010. It passed committee, went to the house, passed the house and then passed the senate as Senate Bill 1685. It was promptly vetoed by Governor Henry who opposed it because he said it made it too easy for firearms to get into the hands of criminals. State Senator Randy Brogdon, who is running on the Republican ticket for Governor promptly slammed this veto and vowed to do all within his power to get the votes for an over-ride of the veto. An over-ride was unsuccessfully attempted on May 5, 2010. Brogdon says he will attempt another over-ride as soon as possible.
